Dylan was devastated. He was Charlie’s caretaker in the military, so he had experience bathing and grooming Charlie. He didn’t know what went wrong but he knew he had to find a cure for his pup.
Dylan hurriedly brought Charlie to a veterinary specialist. The vet, Dr. Judith Ford, is an experienced veterinary dermatologist. After examining Charlie’s skin, Dr. Judith told Dylan:
“Due to being out in harsh weather conditions for a long time, and having a slow healing injury, Charlie’s skin had become sensitive.”
“By bathing your dog, the essential oils on his coat and skin were stripped away. The essential oils function as a moisturizing and nourishing protective barrier for dogs. So, although dogs may be clean after a bath, their skin and fur will become dry which will lead to red, itchy and sensitive skin conditions.”
“The shampoo you used had several harsh substances in its ingredients which is common in most pet shampoos. These substances are harsh enough to aggravate even a normal healthy dog’s skin.” – Dr. Judith
